London Sound Index is a twice monthly newsletter, listing all the best gigs happening in the Big Smoke. This idea was first imagined when we realised many of us felt the need for a comprehensive listing of live music, in one easily accessible place.
Many of us are not on social media much anymore, and sadly found ourselves regularly missing good shows. Some promoters and gigs are also just not widely advertised, which is a shame given the abundance of good music happening all over the city at any given week. This listing aims to showcase as much music as we can.
Apart from some notable exceptions, we tend to avoid large scale events with lots of money behind them in a bid to concentrate on underground and independent operations. In regards to genre we have no editorial position: you’ll find everything from singer-songwriters to free improvisation, opera to DIY/hardcore featured here. Some listings have descriptions, which go some way to reflecting the editorial interests of those who run the newsletter.
We owe a great debt to London newsletters like Another Subculture and DIY Listings London who do an amazing job in presenting specific cross-sections of London gig life. We also owe a lot to nyc noise for their dedication to showcasing experimental music in New York. We have taken their accessibility information as a model for our own.
